Die 79 Zeitungen London's haben 31,692,092; die 212 in den Provinzen 17,058,056; die in 8 Wales 339, 500; die 69 in Schottland 5,027,588 ; endlich die 79 in Irland 6 474,764 Exemplare und verbrauchen eine Papiermafse von 121,184 Ballen, zum Theil in Bogen von ungeheurer Größe. VonBunyan's berühmtem Werke ,,Il>e Pilgrims Progress" wird jetzt eine neue Ausgabe veranstaltet, welche in 10 Theilen, jeder mit 25 bis 30 Holzschnitten von W. Harvay geschmückt, herauekvmmen wird- Der bekannte Kenner der deutschen Literatur, Saint-Nene Tail- landier hat eine Geschichte des jungen Deutschlands veröffentlicht und damit in der literarhistorischen Literatur eine Lücke ausgesüllt, welche Deulschland's Schriftsteller bisher offen gelassen haben. Mit wie aufmerksamen Augen man jetzt selbst in Amerika die deutsche Literatur zu betrachten beginnt, beweist, daß Eckermann's „Ge spräche mit Goethe in den letzte» Jahren seines Lebens^, von S. M. Füller ins Englische übersetzt, dann zwei Thelle Zschokke'scher Erzäh lungen, übersetzt von Parke Godwin, ferner eine Uebertragung von Novalis „Heinrich von Ofkerdingen", endlich ,JVsl! anci Vult, r>r lke Ivvins" nach Jean Paul von E> Buckminster Lee zu gleicher Zeit in New-Vock erschienen sind. Von C. H. Cottcell ist zu London ein interessantes Buch über die religiösen Bewegungen in Deutschland innerhalb des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts herausgekommen. In New-Bork hat eine sehr ausführliche Biographie des jetzigen Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten, Zacharias Taylor, von H. Mont- gomery verfaßt, die Presse verlassen.
